Zimmermann, Jan
Jan grew up in Zizers, a small city in the mountainous region of Switzerland. He studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich, where he participated in the Focus Project ADDit. The goal of ADDit was to develop a novel Power Tool by exploiting the potentials of additive manufacturing (AM). He went on to do a Master’s degree, specializing in medical engineering. His master thesis was embedded in the Zurich Heart Project and focused on ultrasound applications inside the heart. He is fascinated by the combination of mechanical systems and the medical field.
His PhD is conducted in close collaboration with the University Hospital Zurich (USZ). In his research he wants to combine AM, and behavioural assessment methods, such as eye-tracking to develop novel cardiovascular simulators, which will provide a safe, controlled and reproducible environment as an effective way for the education and further qualification of medical students and doctors.
In his spare time, he likes to play various racket sports and hockey. Other interests include traveling, scuba diving and skiing.
