Zander, Mark
Mark was born and grew up in Berlin, Germany. In 2020, he graduated from RWTH Aachen in Germany and holds a master´s degree in mechanical engineering. Post-undergrad, he specialized in medical engineering with focus on the cardiovascular system. Throughout his study he worked as a student research assistant and focused his research work on design, testing and analysis of ECMO components such as membrane oxygenators and blood pumps. Additionally to his studies, he gained further industrial and academical experiences during internships at Siemens Healthineers and the Technion Institute of Technology (Haifa, Israel), respectively. As part of the Erasmus program, he spent a semester at the Politecnico di Milano where he studied biomedical engineering. He did his master thesis at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia) with the topic of experimental flow analysis in membrane oxygenators.
His current research at pd|z is focused on understanding the success factors of development teams, how design methods influence success, and assessing project-based teamwork. In 2023, he was the lead organizer of the Innovationproject, and in 2024, he was the supervising lead.
From 2020 to 2023, his research topic at pd|z was the development of a monitoring and control system for mechanical ventilators used for patients with acute lung diseases. The idea was to gain a better and deeper understanding of the pathological lung diseases to improve the outcome of mechanical treatments of patient.
In his spare time, he enjoys doing various sports in the mountains, in the water or on the pitch.
