Philip Wolf

Philip Wolf grew up in Würenlos, Switzerland, and studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich. During his Bachelor studies, he participated in the focus project IRIDE within the Swiss Academic Space Initiative (ARIS), where he discovered his fascination with space propulsion. He continued contributing to student rocketry projects and, during his Master studies, focused on additive manufacturing and its potential to improve product performance.

His research is driven by a strong interest in the intersection of design and manufacturing, and how their interplay ultimately shapes component performance. With a focus on propulsion systems, he explores how additive manufacturing can be used to control fluid flow and heat transfer through complex cooling channels and porous structures. Combining design, modelling and experimental testing, he investigates how a component’s geometry and the way it is manufactured influence its behaviour. His goal is to translate this understanding into practical design knowledge, helping engineers make informed choices that connect manufacturing possibilities with the intended performance of their components.
