"NOVA iSV" wins 1st price in Engineering at AMX 2019

The "NOVA iSV" research project was awarded with the first prize in the category "Engineering" at the AMX Additive Manufacturing Expo 2019. The project was carried out by inspire and the industry partner NovaSwiss.

During the two-year project, a solenoid valve with integrated hydrogen-sensor technology for up to 1000 bar was developed. The target application of the valve is mainly focused on hydrogen filling stations, but it is also suitable for many other gaseous media.

This Innosuisse project shows that it is now possible to manufacture a competitive series product using Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The product is characterized by a hybrid design, which requires only minimal post-processing and was very economical in its fabrication. Complex and customized geometries were produced by SLM, while simple standardized geometries were produced conventionally.

In several design and test iterations, the material parameters, flow behavior of the media and sensitivity of the sensors were investigated. Finally the function of the valve was validated in a large field test.
