Under this year's purmundus challenge motto "Innovations in Motion" 2021, the world's most innovative projects from the fields of medicine, biotechnology, 3D- & 4D-printing, VR, robotics, renewable energy, mechanical and plant engineering, e-mobility and drive technology were awarded at Formnext 2021. Among the 100 competitors , pd|z was awarded with the Newcomer Prize 2021 for its highly functional-integrated brake caliper. The 3D-printed mountain bike brake caliper was synthesized with the design guidelines of metallic 3D-printing (DfAM) to demonstrate the "free functional complexity" potential of Additive Manufacturing with three added values: design freedom for internal fluid channels, the functional integration of both a monolithic compliant corrugated membrane and topology optimized lightweight design. We congratulate the winning team: Aschraf Danun, Michael Wehrli, Remo Elmiger, Ole Müller, Tiago Ogris, Tom Felder, Dario Ferner and Prof. Mirko Meboldt.
