Schüpbach, Aurel

Aurel grew up in Lucerne before moving to Zurich for his studies. There he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering at ETH Zurich. During this time, he developed a keen interest in agile product development and design generation for additive manufacturing. He won the 3D Pioneers Challenge 2022 with an AM-manufactured monolithic Railbrake as part of a student project. Additionally, Aurel gained valuable experience working at a startup focused on generating minimal surfaces for engineering solutions.
For his master's thesis, he developed an additively manufactured prototype for generating meat replacement products in cooperation with Planted AG.
In his doctoral studies, Aurel is exploring new ways of designing for additive manufacturing by leveraging algorithmic design, artificial intelligence, and next-generation CAD systems.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Aurel is an avid rock climber, frequenting both boulders and climbing walls. He is also a member of the Rock Band "Gob Ribbons".
