Automated Post-Processing for Additive Manufacturing - Enabled by Universal Interfaces

Universal interfaces that are produced in the additive manufacturing (AM) process are the key to automate and digitize the post-processing and the entire AM-process chain.

ALTAIR: “Bolt it solves the problem that almost all metal powder structures have, this idea gives a further boost to the industrial application in additive manufacturing”.

The universal interfaces enable automated gripping and handling of the product. Since the position of the product is clearly defined, there is no need for position detection. In addition, robust machining with accessibility from five sides is made possible. A simple torsion removal of the interfaces completes the process.

The two-year project was headed by Julian Ferchow (Inspire AG, ETH Zurich) and Marcel Schlüssel (Head of Technology at Gressel). The project was conducted as part of an R&D collaboration between Inspire AG, ETH Zurich and Gressel. The project was funded by the Innosuisse.
