Dr. Aschraf Danun / Alumnus
Aschraf was born in Kirkuk, Iraq and grew up in Munich, Germany. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) specializing in mechanical and medical engineering. During his exchange year at the ETH Zurich, he completed his semester’s thesis at the Institute for Biomechanics and his master’s thesis at the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems. There, he deepened his research interests in engineering design, material science and additive manufacturing.
He joined the pd|z as a member of the Design for New Technologies group. His doctoral study is focusing on the design of compliant mechanisms, whose can be adapted individually for several applications. To easily customize these compliable mechanisms, he aims to exploit the advantages of additive manufacturing (AM) for their fabrication. He is using his adaptable compliant components in different realistic scenarios like in prosthetics, surgery or robotics.
